I often badmouth the medical mafia myself.

However, we need to realize that modern medicine is a true miracle in many ways. The important thing is to figure out when they're good and when they're bad.

CPAP is a true miracle for many people, even when done badly. The sad thing is that so many people who should be using it fail to get treatment because of stupid doctors. Or try and fail due to stupid doctors and bad DME's who give poor support. Or use it, but fail to get the full benefit.

Don't forget that vaccines save an enormous number of lives. Smallpox killed something link 300 million people in the 20th century alone. No one in the USA has had smallpox since 1950.

We may badmouth chemotherapy, but many thousands of people are alive and healthy today because of it.

We need to remember that most of the time, the doctors ARE actually offering us beneficial treatment. We need to take a bigger hand in managing our own treatment, but that does NOT mean simply rejecting the doctor's advice when we don't like it.

Most importantly, don't fall for alternative therapies. 90% or more of it is unhelpful at best, and actively dangerous if you use it instead of science based medicine.

Having been told to take the medication as I am not really sure what is wrong with you "I had better do something", a totally spurious diagnosis of high blood pressure, and abysmal treatment for Apnea, I would suggest I have every right to badmouth the medical so called profession.

Phil,

As one who is also leery of both conventional and alternative medicine, I feel you have every right to complain. But I agree with archangle that it doesn't mean the diagnosis of sleep apnea is bogus. Unlike other conditions that can easily be misdiagnosed, with all the data that is being taken at a sleep study, it is pretty hard for this happen with sleep apnea.

And abysmal treatment for a condition doesn't mean the diagnosis is bogus.

I have many problems with the medical mafia.

However, for most patients whom they diagnose with apnea, the diagnosis is a clear cut as an X-ray showing a broken bone, and the need for CPAP is a clear as needing a cast or other treatment for a broken bone.

I haven't seen your own test results. Did you have a sleep test? In-lab, at home, etc.? Did you get a copy of the results?

The results of my home sleep test.

Of course one question could be, have they got the right results?

20 days without CPAP, and getting a good nights sleep.

I'm not that familiar with that particular presentation of the data, but if I read it correctly, you got it bad. I think you've got quite a few "O" obstructive apneas, and they are 30 seconds or longer. You're having SpO2 events, indicating drop in blood O2, which can be harmful.

Did they give you a report with text and numbers about results and conclusions? Particularly AHI and number of events?

As for sleeping well, many people with severe apnea swear they sleep well, but still suffer from the effects of untreated apnea.
Get the free OSCAR CPAP software here.

If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check it yourself.

RE: Stroke directly caused by apnea
I was given no other information other than the chart shown, and being told I have serious apnea.

The sleep test was taken as part of an investigation into alleged epilepsy, the neuro surgeon said emphatically that there was no connection between the two, yet my own doctor said there was, there are numerous references connecting the two on the internet, who do you believe when even the doctors are unable to agree with each other.

Under our socialised health care system supply of information can be lacking to say the least, I would expect to get more information if I were actually paying for it.
