symptoms - hangover feeling next day
HuhI have now been on CPAP for 14 months -three different machines now have ResMed S9 Elite. The longer I use machine the worse the headache is in the morning but my biggest problem is a lousy head - hangover in the morning sometimes lasting all day. I have tortured myself for 14 months for no gain. Using tennis balls in T shirt is slightly better than CPAP pressure now 10 my specialist is increasing to 11. Headaches can use panadeine but the lousy head makes life a misery - had to stop golf because with hangover and concentration problems playing like a novice. Does anyone else suffer this lousy head like being in a vice in the morning.

What has your doctor said is the cause of the headaches? Is he/she sure the CPAP is the cause of them?

Have you gone to your GP and had a full workup to make sure there's not something else going on?

For me, CPAP helped some of my headaches go away, not caused them.

My only thought would be to use a recording Oximeter (CMS50F is what I have) to see if you are maintaining your O2 levels during the night. I used to get headaches all the time prior to my dream machine as I'd drop to the mid 60s all the time. Now I am usually less than 5 minutes below 88% each night.

Unless of course the headaches has nothing to do with your OSA??

For most people CPAP cure headache, not causing it .... unless there is some kind of sinus related problem ... see ENT

No point to speculate, do you check AHI, leaks, etc .. on machine sleep report and ResScan software (as shown in your user profile)

I have had every test available including a brain scan. I see my specialist every month with the reports from the CPAP machine and follow up after with a visit to my Doctor, who also has sleep apnoea, but it has been 15 months with the CPAP and almost 2 years since I reported the problems to my Doctor which led to all the tests I have had. Both Doctors are not frightened to order tests as they know Dept of Veteran Affairs are covering the costs so I have had every test imaginable.

I have had my sinus bored out, my nose broken and straightened and my throat lazered so I do not think it is breathing related. I check the readout on my ResMed CPAP machine every morning and take the CD card to my Specialist every month who prints out the report. I am on my 5th mask, a ResMed Airfit P10. Brian

After two weeks of CPAP therapy I now wake feeling hung over too. I just had a consultation with my DME technician this week and mentioned I wake with minor headaches that last all day and feel hung-over. Technician offered no council. I have six to ten beers a year over the course of as many months otherwise no alcohol whatsoever. I also feel flush in my cheeks beneath my eyes. I have GP and sleep doctor appointments next month. Will see what they recommend.

An oximeter probably is a good idea. If nothing else it may give the doctors additional information.

My Specialist has increased the pressure from 8 to 10 and now 11.
