RE: TINNITUS
I wish I could tell you I found a solution. I spoke to my otolaryngologist today who is wonderful. The bottom line is tinnitus sometimes comes and goes without a reason. She's hoping it will go. I thought of a MRI of my head but there's no point at this point. My hearing test did not show any indication to have one. I know that stress is supposed to contribute to it. Try to eliminate that! Especially now ha ha Ha if I recall I think caffeine also contributes and high salt. I hope it stops for me and for you. Not sure there's much we can do but try to ignore it. Thanks for reaching out.

I wish mine would come & go. It's been about 30 yrs. or so, of 24/7/365 ringing and hissing.

That must be annoying. How do you find you deal with it? Any tricks?

But, for others, it is a big deal. The only time I find it annoying, is if I'm aware of it. Such as discussing it with someone. Even then I know that within a few minutes, I'll have forgotten about it again. Believe me when I say, I'm very fortunate to be able to ignore it. Not sure if it's more prevalent in males than in females.

RE: TINNITUS
CPAP therapy and sleep apnea may have nothing to do with your tinnitus, which could be due to anything from constant exposure to very loud noise to Meniere’s Disease. I would suggest going to an ENT specialist to rule out underlying medical causes that could be treated and ask if CPAP is involved. Sometimes there is no remedy. I deal with my tinnitus by pretending I live next to an inconsiderate neighbour who fixes his house at all hours. But he’s a nice guy living with his disabled mother so I put up with it. For me, this makes the noise more bearable.

Like Big Guy, I've learned to pretty much ignore it unless it is real quiet. I have to sleep with some kind of noise to give me something to focus on. If the TV/music isn't on, my machine helps me counter the tinnitus. I flew for the AF for 20+ years and was a sim instructor for quite a few years and learned how to mentally tune out a radio and pick up when it was for you.

RE: TINNITUS
I'm lucky, as I need no distracting noise to cancel out my Tinnitus. I can sleep in a dead quiet room w/o any problem.
I can catch a cat nap in my recliner with the tv going or not. I'm aware of it, but it just doesn't bother me. It's kind of funny though, cause the pitch and tone can change for no real apparent reason. And, it can fade in & out. Not sure what's up with that. This Spring, I'm thinking about making a trip to Phoenix to see a specialist about it. I called them a couple of weeks ago, and they were a bit evasive as to what could be done, but said that most insurance will cost most, if not all of any costs. I suppose you never really know what can or can't be done until you given it a try.

I've had tinnitus for many years. I also lost hearing of high frequencies and required hearing aids. Although they improved my hearing significantly they had no effect on tinnitus. I have found that a very low sodium diet (no more than 1200mg/day) has reduced my tinnitus significantly. Unfortunately it's very challenging to keep your sodium intake that low. Read a few labels at the crockery store and you'll understand. And forget eating out, especially fast food.
