The hormone thing, ANP, Intrathoracic pressure, etc - these remind us that CPAP does indeed have effects on the body, and not all are desired. The reduction of ANP is all good (I think) but the increase in thoracic pressure can be very hard on the kidneys and can result in water retention and therefore actually increase BP. Untreated apnea also results in elevated BP. It requires monitoring and intelligent application of data to get things right, because we are not all the same (except RG, he's the same - but he never shows up anymore...)
CPAP is not quite as benign as some would like to say. the thoracic pressure increase, tho can be mitigated by using bipap in vulnerable folk.
Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
- Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
- let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
- gently suck to form a light vacuum
Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night
