The Brain
There is a wealth of knowledge here and experience. But 1 thing that I have not read is about how the brain adapts to sleep. It's a mysterious fig, I know, but is there any studies on OSA and how the brain adapts to changing life processes during sleep?

Seems it's approached mechanically. "What's your AHI" ETC? And how you can have perfect stats and wake up feeling worn out. My point being, why, even with better technically better sleep stat results, where the sleep specialists give each other a high five after diagnosing you and 'fixing' your OSA, you feel like crap? Is there any deep studies on the brain to determine how it's able to 'refresh itself and (get er done)' while sleeping and technically 'fix' the OSA problem, you still don't feel right??? Even after years? The brain is vast and profound and maybe beyond our technical ability to understand as of now, but anything close? After all the machines we use now were not in the grand design of the universe. How did people like us survive in the past? It's not just a weight problem or other health problem. My weight is perfect. I exercise, eat super healthy, go to bed eairly, get 9 to 12 hours of sleep, yet still wake up mostly f-ed up.

RE: The Brain
In my case, I had no symptoms of apnea until I started therapy. I sleep 4-6 hours a night, and wake up feeling great. Have energy all day long. I only started two weeks ago, but I haven't had a decent night's sleep since then, and feel like crap. Ahhh- progress!

RE: The Brain
After my first sleep study 20 years ago I felt great afterwards (diagnosed with complex apnea so brain involved).  I never really felt like that again, even after additional sleep studies and new bipap ASV machines.  My doc says my numbers are good.  I asked how come I don't feel like after the first study and was told I'm old now. Huh

RE: The Brain
@Stuff, your doctor, sad to say, doesn't really care how you feel.  I think it's pretty uncaring of a practitioner to write you off as old - even if you may be old.  That being said, why don't you start your own thread on your apnea?  Perhaps there's something positive that can be done to help you, courtesy of the fine people here.  Please download OSCAR, put a 2GB-32GB SD card into your machine overnight, read out the card in OSCAR the next day and post up a night's sleep.  The link to the download is at the top of the page.

The numbers aren't everything.  We're trying to enable people to feel better.  In the end, that's what matters.  Start your own thread...
