Things are looking up...

Things are looking up...
My wife and our 20 yr. old grand-son were out running some errands today, and they stopped by our local Costco.

They returned with a mega pack of toilet paper and a mega pack of paper towels. Oh yeah, and the lean ground beef was in-stock and at a reasonable price. She bought several pounds of it. [Image: elated.gif]

Looks like we'll survive just fine.

We're in a world where serious problems are solved in a one hour tv episode and people come to expect it in real life.  I hope the states opening aren't doing it too soon. Time will tell if it was right or wrong. If it is too soon and the virus numbers go back off the charts all hell will break loose if they try to close again.

To me the social distancing thing is a bit like cpap therapy. we use the cpap to get the numbers down. we've all seen people think their numbers are down so they are cured and can stop cpap.  social distancing which involved closing lots of things brought the covid19 number down. no doubt about it. the $50,000 question is what is the virus going to do when social distancing starts going away and things start opening. Nobody knows that answer yet.

Our governor announced just today that the state will remain closed for another two weeks or so. It was a long and drawn-out press conference. I lost interest after about 10 min. or so.

Since I've already heard that some states are opening things up to varying degrees, and in somewhat limited areas, no I do not see lockdowns for the rest of the year. FWIW we here in PA have an odd reopen going on. Gov. Wolf allowing golf courses and I'm not sure what else exactly, but businesses still rather restricted. I was against the lockdown from the beginning including this reason of random decisions on implementation of a lockdown. We already automatically go into social distancing when others are sick.

Be mad at me if you choose, but this overreaction to this virus was the governments of many countries choosing to never let a crisis go to waste. The government just showed how far they can deny and restrict our rights by enacting an order. I haven't heard it, but I'm wondering what would we do if our governments decided we surrender our firearms because of COVID-19? Curious minds like mine want to know, but hope I never find out if they would infringe rights to that extreme.

Don't bother accusing me of saying the virus didn't kill or make people sick. It did, and I never said that it did not. But I do have to question the overreaction to COVID-19, and it's odd that its very name suggests a form of this virus existed for some time. Note what I said "a form", COVID-19 I'm guessing 19 for 2019 as in the form seen in 2019-2020. So yes, I am sick of COVID-19.

Our government wanting us to surrender our firearms (for whatever reason) would be in my opinion, the last straw that broke the camel's back.

I also do believe that our government knows that, and I don't think we'll ever see that day, at least not in our lifetime.

I hope you're right and I also hope we never find out. Because this guy that carries wouldn't like it.

There is much wisdom in these replies. We may see a continuing use of social distancing in the future and less hand shaking. Lets get on life sensibly and safely.

The confiscation of all firearms would be a big wake-up call to untold millions of individuals.

I don't see the majority of LE or military joining in to see that it gets done. If there was a single event responsible for the destruction of this nation of ours, it would be the confiscation of our firearms.

I'm no fan of guns and wouldn't want to see more guns in private hands here in Oz but, once gun ownership gets to the levels seen today in America, putting that genie back in its bottle would be stupid. As the saying goes, "If you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns."

I swear some gun control advocates think that making gun ownership illegal will mean all the drug dealers, rapists, robbers and nasties will say, "Darn it. Now I have to hand my guns over, just when I was planning to rob that bank."
