Tips for Mastering the P10
#11
RE: Tips for Mastering the P10
HalfAsleep,
I’ve tried the hose buddy, but felt it pulled upwards on my mask, and didn’t like that feeling.

What I do now it use Velcro clips and clip the hose to my bed sheet close to my pillow and another clip
on my blanket or PJ top so the hose moves with me and doesn’t fall off the side of the bed or tug at my mask.

Keep experimenting, you’ll find what works for you.

Great minds think alike! The hose buddy wrapped hose around me like a boa constrictor. I'll get some hose clips and clamp them to pillows and just arrange the pillows in a way that works.

RE: Tips for Mastering the P10
New question on my P10. I need an interpretation of the sounds.

Last night, it seemed as though I didn't have much trouble with mouth seal, although I did swap pillow size in the night because of nose irritation, not because of seal.

I am completely thrilled with that leak progress...

BUT I scored a red frown instead of my usual green smiley from the obnoxious Mr Maskfit Smiley Face.

Until now, He's been all smiles even when I fumbled all night trying to keep the thing on. I was scoring as high as 35.

Clearly, I need a thick volume of "CPAP for Dummies" with a whole chapter on mask (and related) sounds.

A leak makes a hissing sound, correct?

And the CPAP machine doing its thing in mortal combat with an apnea makes a low definite swoosh in the mask (with an impressive amount of force). If you've never heard it before you might exclaim...."What the heck....it's blasting at me. Oh....I get it, CPAP at work...Hail the conquering hero et al". That's not a mask leak, correct?

I neglected to mention--but can't edit--that I don't believe my mouth opened much last night.

RE: Tips for Mastering the P10
I tried the P10 recently and found the head straps slipped around. Some solutions I was given were - the original buff or velcro.

The original buff is a hat/scarf/headband. When put on touque style under the P10 will prevent slipping straps.

The velcro - can use the stick on dots. Applied to the underside of the straps can prevent slipping.

I haven't tried either myself yet, but experienced users have successfully used these methods.

I think the straps are the key to a good seal.

Sounds ...... I found the P10 quiet when I had a good seal .... as long as the bedding wasn't too close to the vent.

I think I've found a solution for slippy straps....We'll see if it works. I went over to W...... to get some hairclips as someone else suggested. While I was in that department (a rare visit for a no fuss no muss gal), a totally different item caught my eye. Headbands! Non-slip headbands! I'm going to cut one up, fold it lengthwise around the headgear band and stitch it up! Voila! a siliconized P10 headgear.

I'll let you know how it goes....

RE: Tips for Mastering the P10
LOL yes, I've had a greasy nose since I started on Saturday, just to keep the rims supple.  After four nights and a couple of naps, they're a lot less sensitive during the day, so time is helping.
I feel no leaks while awake, but obviously I'm having them while aseep.  I do find that the rubbery bit where the two hoses connect gets stuck between the mattress and pillow as I move, and I find myself through the night being conscious enough to free it up when I feel the tug.
Ours is one of those metal frame beds with a nice space on the ends to hang the hose over.  Works nicely.
My partner also drilled a hole in the cheapo shelving to hold the hose in place in case I pulled the whole thing down, which also works nicely.  The hose then runs out up to the bed head, leaving plenty of hose to move around with. That top shelf is about level with the mattress.

I've been fiddling around with the headgear, but really it seems to fit well enough in any position, and I don't think that's an issue.  I have my own retail business, so strap marks across my face is not something I like to share with customers as I greet them in the mornings. I might swap the pillow size up again to see if that addresses the leaks, though.  Comfort-wise the Xsmall is fine. I don't really want to mess that up, but it might be ok to play with that again once my nose is fully trained.

Regarding the buff. I hadn't thought of organizing it like that...that's a great idea. Put the buff on and then the P10 straps over it. I think I have a buff somewhere or other.

The other thing I was thinking a buff would be good for....a chin strap!

Better, better, better oooooh! Buff as cover for the grody neck/chin support collar.

Well, well, well...yours looks just like mine. Imagine that! (I think I got mine the same day....)

I'm finding the headgear fits well, it's just that it doesn't stay put. I can wake up at night with the whole contraption hanging off an ear...Very common scenario: the two separable straps have a compulsion to merge. They are almost always together by the time I wake up, and then the mask is invariably affected.

I wear my P10 headgear under my chinstrap with the bottom strap of the mask as low as possible and the top strap adjusted to stop leaks and for comfort. The chinstrap keeps the headgear from slipping off. Perhaps you could do something similar with the headband.
