Tongue device/prone pillows for CPAP
Tongue device/prone pillows for CPAP
Hello, I have recently gone to see a ENT who does a lot of sleep surgeries but they said to await the results of a polysomnography first before making any decisions. They looked in my throat and airway and said that everything looks good in terms of size, (small palate, normal size airway, no inflammation in tonsils, slightly deviated septum). When they simulated an apnea with the scope in my airway they found that my tongue (don't remember wording) fell back a bit. Since a majority of my apneas occur during REM I think it is likely that they could be caused by the tongue relaxing during that time period and blocking the airway. CPAP/BiPAP hasn't worked out very well. I currently use a MedCline sleep system which forces me to sleep on my side, but I find that I am actually at a 45 degree angle between my back and my side when I wake up. I would like to try a pillow which lets me sleep on my stomach with CPAP (if it exists), and see if that helps. Does anyone here know of such a pillow? Also, I was wondering anyone has had any success with a tongue retaining device, and if so which one you would recommend? (Would be used in conjunction with BiPap).
