There are a couple of medications that are used to treat Periodic Breathing/Cheyne Stokes Respiration. The medication strategy is similar to strategies used to treat High Altitude Sickness. However you may not need anything for the Cheyne Stokes because much of it may have been aggravated by the incorrect machine and will reduce on its own without the CPAP.

The most commonly prescribed medication for Cheyne-Stokes Respiration associated with CHF is Theophylline https://www.drugs.com/cdi/theophylline.html The 2nd much less frequently used is Acetazolamide https://www.drugs.com/cdi/acetazolamide.html Acetazolamide is commonly prescribed for High Altitude Sickness which can cause Cheyne Stokes Respiration. Most of the literature centers on the use of Theophylline.
