The funny part is that my doc can order a $3000 CT scan just because he wants to make sure I didn't break anything in my head, but getting a CPAP machine is this big freaking production with a $2500 sleep study and a couple of visits to a specialist and then follow-up visits to the DME.
A really good machine is < $700 on-line and I'm certain the insurance companies pay less than that.
I would think that getting a good CPAP machine shouldn't require much more than a GP saying "Hey, you look like crap. Let's try this auto machine for a week or two."
But it doesn't.
For that matter, I'd have been happy to pay out of pocket and just buy online and avoid the whole production, but my doc completely freaked out over that idea.

I didn't need a CT to know there's something broken in my head. I have a wife she tells me all the time, and we all know she's right.
As to the insurance companies and what they pay, on my POS they rented it for 12 months at $122 a month and then they will pay the balance which I believe is another $1500-$2000 from what I was told by the DME. I can buy that unit for less than $500. So g figure? No wonder medical insurance costs an arm and a leg. I see what they pay for pillows, masks, filters, etc and I know they are all less on line, even on the Bay, so I have no idea what they are doing....
If everyone thinks alike, then someone isn't thinking.
Everyone knows something, together we could know everything.
