[Treatment] I survived my first week of CPAP therapy

I survived my first week of CPAP therapy
I made it through my first week of using CPAP. It only took me a couple of nights to get used to it. It did take a bit of adjusting to get the right humidity for me. It's only been a week but I think I am seeing changes in me. I have more energy and I'm actually doing things after work instead of crashing on the couch when I get home. I even went for a long walk on the Beach this weekend. Gotta love the 80 degree weather in South Florida in January. So all in all this has been a positive diagnosis and treatment. I meet with my sleep specialist next week in the brand new Sleep and Movement Disorders Center at the University of Miami School of Medicine.
Thanks everyone for advice and tips.

Congratulations! You are off to an excellent start. You have the same set up as my husband so if you have any questions, we might be able to help, although we are also very new to this.

It is great things are going so well in your treatment.

And congratulations on getting a fully data-reporting machine!

What are your OAI and CAI apnea indexes (the average number per hour for each type of apnea)? By the way, I think it is normal to have some short (less than maybe 20 seconds) clear airway apnea events while first falling asleep.

Looking at the waveform (plot) of your apnea Events, what are the durations of the 3 longest events during the night (not counting events while falling asleep), and are they obstructive or clear airway events?

Keep in mind that Obstructive Sleep Apnea is usually highly positional and usually worse when on our back or when our lower jaw is pulled back instead of extended outward a little.

To stay off our back, many folks wear a teeshirt with pocket or sock sewn on back with tennis ball in it. I find the ball needs to be high up, between my neck and shoulder blades so it won't shift position and touch the bed and bother me when I'm sleeping on my side.

Write down a list of things you want to ask the doctor about, to show to doctor at start of meeting.

Take care,
--- Vaughn

A week. Now you've got the rest of your life. But you're off to a great start.

Same here. Maybe it's a standard. But before this past October I had only two humidity settings. Tank with water / tank without water. It's so neat to have something modern!

I look forward to that too, after tomorrow's confrontation.
But right now at a straight 11 "static" pressure I am hoping my resp therapist will stop fighting against me and issue that darn AutoSet.

Quote: I even went for a long walk on the Beach this weekend.

Brrrr. You have some nerve. Our beach is covered with snow.

Quote:So all in all this has been a positive diagnosis and treatment.

May it continue. Best wishes. Put on some boots and gloves. The beach is cold and the water is starting to ice over nowadays.

Congratulations USKiwi on your success so far. I found once I started on cpap therapy my energy levels increased and I was no longer falling asleep while watching TV or listening to boring people talking on and on, which happened at work sometimes and was very embarrassing.
