Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
  • Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
  • let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
  • gently suck to form a light vacuum

Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night

RE: Provent
After reading this thread I just had to go look at the Airing web site and check out the status. They have yet to even test this micro-blower and have just gotten some parts so they can try and build one.

They have not determined how much volume (air flow) they can get from these things
They have not determined if they can get a battery in that case that will be able to power this thing for 8 hours
They have not even started on any type of controller for running this thing. CPAP only? Maybe?
They say that unlike all other solutions they for some reason do not need a humidifier.
It looks like they are still bringing in money

IMHO they have made very little progress while spending all that money.

Lets see if I can put this delicately.
It's a fraud, quack cure and blatantly designed to separate fools from their cash.
Snake oil may be more effective.
There.
Did I miss anything?

RE: Provent
Their facebook page has some update videos. They don't say much and don't reveal much. Here's the April update:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wf0YPMWcdT0

He talks about the micro-blower (he holds it up as a white square with a white plus in the middle) but the there's no video of it actually working. From his speech, it sounds as if he based all of this on theory and nothing on anything that actually is proven. Like, they are going to test the micro-blower (which is nowhere near small enough to fit in the demo model) and the vibrating plates to see how much air they put out via the vibrations. How can they claim it will work if they don't know that already?! I am sure I am missing something because surely that many people weren't fooled.

On the one hand, I can see how this could be exciting as heckaroni if it would actually work. You would lose the data capabilities but for those who travel or camp or need to take cat naps, this would be perfect.

But I don't see it working. No power source exists to power even a mini fan like that for 8hrs at 20cmH2O and yet be small enough to sit on your nose. Even the little coin batteries aren't that small and do not put out that much power nor last that long. And they are freakin' expensive! So no way he can make a disposable one for $3.

This goes for Provent, too. It is an interesting concept but "works" for such a small percentage of the population. Other than wearing it during a sleep test or, at the least, an oximeter, there's no way to even tell if it is working.

is that, like, a really big penalty or something? Grin

Oh, huge. The worse thing a Monitor or Moderator has to do. Gah, just the thought of it gives me the chills. Or it could be that the office window is open.

its a wish and a dream. offer the moon to people that don't understand technology but want to help so many people that they write small checks to help out
yes there are hundreds of thousands of them and almost as many people willing to take advantage of them (even the Doctors they have on board)
sigh, they will never learn.
