Two things, look for a buckwheat pillow to help by being both firm and moldable
Also use a soft cervical collar, while not continuous they are mostly positional

RE: Trying to reduce my AHI
Thanks Gideon and OpalRose.
I've updated my profile now and have ordered a buckwheat pillow to try. I've also switched back to the Philips Nuance mask and it seems to have reduced the leaks significantly. Unfortunately, I just cannot tolerate the cervical collars at all. This is because of a neck injury that led to spinal surgery and lasting nerve damage. I really wish this was not the case, but there's not much I can do about it. I've attached the Oscar charts from the last two nights. The leaks are definitely much better with the Philips Nuance mask. I am feeling better than I was, but still not feeling great. I usually read in bed while wearing my CPAP until about 23:00, and then I go to sleep. That may explain why there is a long period at the start of the night without apneas. Is there any setting change that might help? I was thinking about increasing the minimum pressure perhaps. Thanks again for your help, Tess

RE: Trying to reduce my AHI
Please talk to your cervical specialists and say that your cervical alignment at night is significantly affecting your Obstructive Sleep Apnea, it suggested to use a soft cervical collar but I cannot tolerate it. Any ideas on what I can do?
I would take several charts and circle the clusters of obstructive events that you regularly have. I think you will love the buckwheat pillow once you figure out the correct fill level for you.

RE: Trying to reduce my AHI
Hi again,
I ended up ordering a few other cervical collars that were specifically mentioned on the forum. I managed to sleep with the 3M Futuro cervical collar last night. I'm delighted that I've found a collar that is comfortable. I'm still waiting for my buckwheat pillow to be delivered and I slept with the Futuro collar and no pillow last night as that was comfortable. I have also increased my minimum pressure a little to 13.4, but perhaps I shouldn't have done that. I've attached my Oscar charts from last night. I'm definitely feeling much better than I was, but my AHI is still over 5 and I'd say there's still room for improvement. I'd be very grateful for any advice. Thanks, Tess P.S. I didn't put the CPAP on until just before I went to sleep, so I was awake for maybe the first 30 mins of the charts. |
