I don’t make the snoring sounds but I breathe very loud. I wake up with terrible dry mouth. And I blow my nose at least 10 to 15 times a day. Always seem to have mucus at the back of my throat/nose. Has anyone else had this surgery?

Uppp surgery & turbinate reduction
I had uppp & turbinate reduction surgery about 1 1/2 years ago for sleep apnea. I wish I’d never had it!

RE: Uppp surgery & turbinate reduction
Hello. When you say "Uppp" surgery, what is that? I had an Uvulectomy and my turbinates, and I believe my septum all operated on. This was a gazillion years ago. Recuperation was very painful. And the Uvulectomy was apparently considered experimental and is not even done any more, so I am told. With all the surgery, i still have severe OSA.
How long ago were your procedures? Signed, Plmnb (Very new member here)

Was CPAP tried before surgery?

RE: Uppp surgery & turbinate reduction
Yes. Total failure. No matter what mask used it would be on the floor next to my bed. This is why the surgery was suggested. I tried for a while to get relief but I did not get it, so I gave up.
Now, I am trying again. Hoping that in 7 years advances have been made. Finding this board feels like a godsend. I had a new sleep study done after the surgery and was told my OSA was slightly better than it was prior to the surgery. This was over 7 years ago. At the time I was considered to have moderate OSA. Now, it is considered Severe OSA. So, what is Uppp? surgery. Plmnb

RE: Uppp surgery & turbinate reduction
Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty(also known by the abbreviations UPPP and UP3) is a surgical procedure or sleep surgery used to remove tissue and/or remodel tissue in the throat. This could be because of sleep issues. Tissues which may typically be removed include: The tonsils, uvula, removal of soft tissue from upper palate.
I had all the above done plus the turbinate reduction. I tried the cpap with all the apparatus and could not tolerate it. That’s why I had the surgery. April 2018

RE: Uppp surgery & turbinate reduction
Ah, so we both had the UPPP and pretty much the same other surgeries.
I'm surprised your surgery was in 2018 because every specialist I saw from just prior to 2012, maybe a little before that even, said the procedure was experimental and just after that it was deemed to not be advisable. I wanted to do it though because I was desperate. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure exactly who told me to have the surgery, all I remember is that my sleep specialist at the time, a pulmonologist, said he did not believe I should have the operation. Oddly enough, recently a dr. looked in my nose and said I had a hole. Well, I think he may be wrong. Because I had all the stuff in my nose fixed when I had the UPPP. I need a second opinion on this. I'm sorry to hear that cherrow42, I don't know how you can improve your condition. You'll probably have to visit an ENT.
Considering you had these surgeries done for sleep apnea, have they at least "cured" your sleep apnea? Have you had a sleep study done post-surgery?

How elegant and seamlessly these surgeries are. Truly working to restore harmony in the upper airway. Once an ENT told me that (uppp) was 'brutal' it wasn't an option for me.

In my surgery they operated also on that thing that hangs down from the top in the back of the throat. I actually had my primary dr. Remark the other day that she didn’t see mine and wondered where it was. I was ticked off at her because I had indicated I had had this surgery to her.

I had sinus surgery in July and the surgeon couldn't even remember me from a week prior. If he does two surgery days/week he can't operate 10 people/week. Unfortunately this seems like typical Dr behavior. |
