Use a UPS for backup with CPAP suggestions

That my thing right now looking at the power requirements. According to the power adapter with my dreamstation. At 12 Volts it needs just over 6 Amps and if using 110 2 Amps 240 Watts. If I go with just a battery it would have to be big just to get any run time as well if I went with a UPS for anything over 10 to 15 minutes im looking at over $700. 

My power don’t go out often but darn that was a rude awakening.

I doubt the current draw is 6A.  That is pretty much a worst case scenario estimate at max pressure & heat settings I would bet.  My Respironics at a median pressure of 10 ish runs about 400 milliamps; with heat humidification set at "2", it will draw about a pretty steady 1.0 amp.

Regardless, it seems it will still cost a grand just to run the thing on battery for the whole night.  WOW.      I guess its better then nothing though,  even for just a surge or short power blip probably not a bad idea.   but 300 dollars is probably only get you a couple hours...   a rude awakening indeed...

I see they have portable battery packs made for specific cpap machines that claim it can go 6-12 hours.   They cost about 300-500 dollars,  but it seems they are meant as travelling packs.  And not really meant everyday use to act as backup surge protector?

The Medistrom Lithium batteries for CPAP machines run about $400, and are good for at least six hours with very low/no humidity or heat.  If you are looking for a buffer against surges, you want a surge protector, and decent ones can be had for about $40, some with multiple sockets like a power station. I place one of those in the wall and plug my Medistrom battery into that.  We have finally gotten into our stormy time of year with its inevitable power outages.  I have tested my system, and it works, but haven't had the power outage yet in the middle of the night.
