Sleep Study Questions

Sleep Study Questions
I keep trying to decipher my sleep study results with ones listed on this board and of course, some google fu.  My home sleep study only had the oximeter and an electrode on my throat, along with a wristwatch connecting it all together.  No chest straps or anything else?

Do these results indicate I had any central apneas?

IMPRESSIONS
- Mild Obstructive Sleep apnea(OSA) with an AHI of 7.4/hr and REM AHI of 14/hr
- Patient snored 2.5% during the sleep.

RECOMMENDATIONS
- Oral appliance may be considered.
- Avoid alcohol, sedatives and other CNS depressants that may worsen sleep apnea and disrupt normal sleep architecture.
- Sleep hygiene and medications may be reviewed to assess factors that may improve sleep quality.
- Weight management and regular exercise should be initiated or continued.
- Discuss the results of the sleep study with the referring provider.
- Thank you for utlilizing the WellSpan Sleep Center.
- Portable studies present limited sleep data compared to that of an in-laboratory polysomnogram and may underestimate the severity of sleep-disordered breathing. This study was scored and interpreted according to American Academy of Sleep Medicine guidelines. This study was deemed to be technically adequate based on accepted standards unless noted specifically above.
- Clinical correlation is recommended for all patients undergoing home sleep testing. Caution is recommended with driving or during other activities requiring alertness for safety.

MONITORING

The WatchPAT device is worn on the wrist and is utilizing a plethysmographic based fingermounted probe, to measure the PAT (Peripheral Arterial Tone) signal. The PAT signal is a measurement of the pulsatile volume changes in the fingertip arteries which reflects the relative state of the arterial vasomotor activity, and thus indirectly the level of sympathetic activation. Peripheral arterial vasoconstriction, which mirrors sympathetic activation, is shown as attenuation in the PAT signal amplitude.

If that's the same as Pahic4... You scored zero
I've no idea how reliable those systems are.
Do those images look like your equipment?

You're welcome

I guessed and googled WatchPAT pahic4 - the "c" looked like "central"
That gave me junk
So I dropped the 4 and tried WatchPAT pahic
Bingo!  ;-)

Here you go..

More information than you could ever want to know about the WatchPAT system

Page 11 might be handy because it defines some of the acronyms for you

There is also a nice section showing the various reports that are generated.

My guess is that it just tracks muscle movements, which is the lowest standard.  Like a fitbit.  You can buy a usb pulse ox for 50$.  If it doesn't have EEG that wouldn't be enough for me.
