Want to know what sucks is?

I got the new cap and conductor installed. in 10 minutes thanks to mother nature tossing lighting around. Threw the switch and everything came on but the fan... I took a screw driver and spun the fan and it took off and has been running since. My guess, the start side of the motor is kaput. New motor on the way.

Hot wire the fan so it will continue to run and you stay cool. Alternately aim a sprinkler at it.
If my points about genny or brownouts apply replace the start kit. Do not replace the lizard. They are self replacing. Why are the =+%}{!! fire ants attracted to electricity? Snakes like to wrap around compressors to keep warm. I installed my heatpump in the snow last winter. Thanks for reminding to go get a start kit for it. IMO Cheap insurance.
I use my PAP machine nightly and I feel great!

If you have trouble getting the fan blade off PM me and I'll give you a cheat that will help.
Put anti-seize on the shaft and seal it with RTV !

Was going to hit all the bolts with PB blaster and let it sit while I get myself organized. The fan grille really needs to be painted too. It's very rusty.

Oh snap. didn't think of that. That's going to keep me cool today while I wait for the part. Thanks!

Commander Heatherly called 'no joy' (allegedly since no one heard him) and went below the hard deck.

The fan is shot. I don't know how I was able to get it to spin yesterday. Maybe the heat, but today it spun and stopped. The fan is definitely harder to turn than normal. So in the heap of scrap she goes. I already pulled it. The blade assembly came off real easy.

Count yourself lucky on two counts. First getting the blade off can be a real battle and second old blades tend to get out of balance and fatigued and on the occasion I cannot avoid working on a little bitty res unit I generally replace the blade while I'm at it.

Many years ago on the 4th of July during my own yard party no less I was called to large a police dept. Their maint guy had already told them the condenser fan drive had fragged and they should plan on being hot for a few days as parts would have to be machined. So I show up to a bunch of hot grumpy people with guns .... I said no problem cool on in 15 minutes. One particularly big grumpy guy with a gun said you better not be yankin our chains. This was a machine the size of a flatbed trailer. I went to my truck got two oscillating sprinklers and a couple hundred feet of hose. Put the sprinklers under the unit. Viola! Instant water cooled a/c. I was afraid big grumpy guy with a gun was gonna hug me. Chief gave me his biz card and said if I ever needed a favor just call. LOL

I would have been 'on patrol' at least the car would have ac.

Grille is cleaned up and painted. The old powder coat (over chrome) was all falling apart. Cheaper than spending another 130 for a new grille.
