Wanted: DreamStation 2 Android "power user"

Wanted: DreamStation 2 Android "power user"
As part of the ongoing effort towards OSCAR support for the Philips DreamStation 2, we would like to examine the data sent between the DS2 and DreamMapper. We are hoping that a small number of users will be able to help us collect sample traffic for study. This will involve installing a custom app and following instructions to activate and use some developer features on your phone (your phone will be restored to its original state afterwards, and nothing will change on your DS2).

Here are the prerequisites to participate:
  • You are using a Philips DreamStation 2.

  • You are using the DreamMapper app on an Android phone with your DS2.

  • Your Android phone runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) or later. Most Android phones released since late 2015 should qualify.

  • You are “pretty good” at using your phone, e.g. you know how to:
    • turn the phone on and off
    • install and uninstall apps
    • view notifications (by swiping down from the top of the screen)
    • view and change settings
Here are the risks to consider:
  • You will have to provide your Gmail address (via private message) to me to allow you to install a custom app from the Android Play Store.

  • This custom app is not scanned for malware by Google. It is written from scratch by me, using libraries only from Google and JetBrains (Google's software partner for Android).

  • The custom app will upload Bluetooth logs from your phone (on your command) to your Google Drive and share those files with me. It cannot access any other Google Drive files belonging to you.

  • The Bluetooth logs may contain all data sent to and from your phone over Bluetooth during the capture process, including traffic with devices other than the DS2.

  • The Bluetooth logs may include detailed information from your DS2, including but not limited to serial number, therapy settings, and session data.
Note that you must have a DreamStation 2, the latest generation that was just released in April 2021, to participate. If your Philips Respironics machine is older than that then you almost certainly have one of the earlier models that are already supported by OSCAR.

If you meet the prerequisites and would like to help out, please send a private message to Gideon. Thanks!
