We have rain today

my doc says its obvious im still making insulin, else blood sugars would be even higher Confused mine is insulin resistance as well and that is why I want to try the Invokana (canagliflozin). I do not need to be fatter, and that is what excess insulin does. However, high blood sugar that never goes below 200 is not good.

Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
  • Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
  • let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
  • gently suck to form a light vacuum
Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night

Well, we have a cold, blustery day today.

DV: You know that the renal threshold for glucose to spill over into urine is around 200 mg/dl.
It's sort of a limiter on rising blood glucose.

I have a friend in Nevada who's using Invokana. (He might also be using Victoza.)
Invokana works be pushing glucose out the kidneys. I don't think he'd be on Invokana if it was unsafe as he's got some renal problems.
He and his siblings all have what appears to be genetic renal cysts that somewhat compromise renal function by occupying space needed by nephrons.
I'd worry more about UTI's.

What would you blood sugar do if you cranked back on carbs?

well - i have been eating a lot of salads Big Grin feel like a rabbit! Have dr appts this friday and next.... hope to get something going - really going to push for the Invokana. Januvia is similar in type of action to the Victoza but is oral rather than injected - and not as powerful.

Snowing here.

I was diagnosed with insulin resistance a couple months ago. Typical advice: cut back on sugar, lose weight, etc.

I've been doing that and it's helped, though I haven't had a follow-up blood insulin test yet. I'm hoping the CPAP will help, and it seems to be. I've lost 5ish pounds.

mchlwise: Sometimes it only takes a few pounds shed to reduce fasting blood sugar.

Daria: Victoza uses a pen with a very fine needle. Both Victoza and Invokana are expensive (and I would guess so is Januvia.)
My friend likely could not afford Victoza if not for his wife. He's medicare age, but he's on his wife's medical policy from her job.

yeah - i have good insurance from my job, as well. Thank God. Invokana and Januvia are both tier 2 meds on my plan and will cost me $75 for 90 days worth. Could be worse.

Well I've been on insulin for around two years now and it didn't change my weight once. I just give myself three jabs a day (NPH medium acting) with a pen, no big deal. I seem to have dropped around twenty pounds since I started APAP, although truth to tell I haven't weighed myself lately.

Evidence shows that for type II diabetics an attempt to hold A1C below 6 is actually detrimental. These days they are happy if you can stay below 8.

The above is my opinion.  It is just possible that I may, occasionally, be mistaken.
