I retired in July 2011, after working 42+years for Uncle Sam as an internal/management auditor and computer specialist: 17 years with Dept of Ag's Office of the Inspector General and 25 years with Customs (and Border Protection) Office of Internal Affairs.

Part timer hired by the Intrepid and Glorious State of FL. Smile
I drive a computer. All around computer desktop brain surgeon.
Mostly digging through databases and wiring them together into meaningful stuff.
Often in line of duty I am called on to do system level mods and web page stuff so people can *SEE* the data I wired together in a meaningful way.
When I'm not doing that, I show these newbie, punk kids in their 30's & 40's how to do stuff the right way, first time around.

Yup. I'm an Uber-Geek. Smile

Funny, that's what my boss keeps asking me!
Laugh-a-lot

Seriously though, I'm a Contract Land Agent for a major oil conglomerate. Before that I was a Right-of-Way Agent for an electric utility company. Before that I was an Electric Utility Line Clearance Tree Trimmer.

I've been a photographer (college newspaper), computer lab asst. ("this is the 'on' button", college), plant nursery worker (irrigation), a human nursery worker (asst. manager aka chief bottle washer), program coordinator (respite services), concession stand worker ("asst. manager", Asheville Tourists), solderer, group home night staff (lovely, lovely job....not), and then a potter. Now on disability and trying to be a writer. One published novel (sappy romance), another sold (SF due to come out in Nov), and lots of short stories and non-fiction.

At age 45 you could say I'm retired because I use a walker and have balance issues. Despite my desires, I don't think anyone would have the guts to hire me. I would love to have a paying job again someday though.

I used to be an Engineer for General Electric working on the Advanced Boiling Water power plant as a System Engineer. In February, 2009, they "retired" me. Been on disability ever since.
