What is SpO2 Drop Index'
Hi folks - does anyone know what 'SpO2 Drop Index' means on an Oximeter report? Using a CMS 50+. Thanks!

SpO2 refers to the blood oxygen saturation which is reported as a percentage.
ODI (Oxygen Drop Index) is the number of episodes of oxygen desaturations per hour. In some cases, you can define what constitutes a countable desaturation event by setting the saturation drop (e.g. 4%) and a time period (e.g. 10 seconds.) I have polycythemia which appears to be caused by oxygen desaturation at night and results in more red blood cells being created. Hence I "donate" 500 ml of blood every six weeks. Research tends to indicate that individuals with an ODI >10 (oxygen drops per hour) had significantly higher hemoglobin than those with an ODI less than 10. Hope this helps. Steve
