What type of mask?

full face mask can be good option if you can make it work for you
no harm in trying, it took me few tries to the find the right mask

you did not say whats the leak shown on the machine sleep report
we cannot tell if events flagged while awake or asleep but looking at Resscan charts might give us some idea
for example if events flagged when laying in bed awake or high leaks than those type of events are not real

air goes up the nose and instead going down the airways start detour to exit thru the mouth
lips are sealed so cheeks inflate like balloon

as I mentioned the solution is to train the tongue act as door stopper and block the exit of air
normally keeping the tongue position at the roof of the mouth will create a barrier so air won,t enter the mouth
practice keeping the tongue in this position and breathe thru your nose during the day so it become a habit to do when you,re asleep

RE: What type of mask?
Yeah, even I did the motorboat thing a few times in the beginning. Luckily, it stopped after only a few nights.

There's several good full face masks out there, including a few hybrids. Most full face masks (FFM) are just nasal masks big enough to include the mouth. A hybrid FFM is one that has nasal pillows and a part that covers the mouth.

Check out the review section, if you have not already.

By the way, Archangle's great recommendations for machine choices can be found in our Wiki, here:

If at all possible, don't let anyone sell you one that is on Archangle's "avoid" list.

RE: What type of mask?

<Hi Shastzi,
I highly recommend the ResMed Gecko nasal pad, which is a super protector for the bridge of the nose and seals leaks around the eyes and nose, allowing leak-free fit without the mask being adjusted so tight that mask hurts bridge of nose. >

Thanks vsheline, I'll give it a try!

RE: What type of mask?
My original query (3 days ago) sought comments about going to a full mask because of the lip flutters. I have been encouraged by the respondents whe said hang in there and things may well get better. Well, I tightened the chin strap - and things have got better. In the last three days, my lips appear to be sealing and my AHI last night was only 1.8. That is down from about 8 in only three nights. I feel much better about it all now - and hope to be able to keep away from the full face mask. By the way, my mask is a nasal mask branded large size, F&P Eson. It is quite comfortable and seems to seal well. I am rolling over in bed without knocking it sideways - and all is good. Thank you all for your suggestions. Merry Christmas everyone. Sleep tight.

RE: What type of mask?
There are several reasons why nasal masks are better than FFM (Full Face Masks.)

However FFM beats losing all your air through your mouth or not being able to breathe because of a stuffy nose. Many people do quite well with FFM, but try to make the nasal mask work first.

Welcome and good luck.

Thanks Thank you Trish. (I wonder what the six hundred stands for?) I don't know what it's like in Missouri right now - but it's a warm 35 degrees here in the South West corner of Western Australia. We are just about to have a Christmas lunch and I don't think I will need any rocking to have a sleep after lunch.

RE: What type of mask?

Hi LazyViro,
It's an inside joke between a good friend of ours in these parts but it has nothing to do with temperature. My husband and I were visiting with our friend and I jokingly told him that I felt like I was 600 years old sometime, what with some aches and pains, anyway, he started calling me the 600-year-old jedi master and thats what the 600 stands for, (Ha-Ha.)
