I just fell for that at my DME.
Added pack of 12 ResMed to my mask/hose/humidifier changer order. Cash out of pocket/not covered by my benefit plan.

I trick I have found on Amazon (no Resmed brand filters sold there). Forget about the Amazon recommended as that is not about quality.
1. find a vendor that has sole hundreds of the product
2. read the negative reviews first. I tend to be skeptical of any that say it just does not work. With this look for descriptions: thin, not as dense as the brand name, chemical smell, doesn't fit...…
3. especially with a product like this, there are very qualified sounding reviewers
4. never buy from someone that has sold 5, no matter what a good price it seems.
If you want brand name only then SPTROUT is spot on. The ones on Amazon are low cost, about $0.25 each. You might consider buying your next pack from the brand name and buying a good choice from Amazon and trying them out. Not really all that high of a cost item to begin with
Some good advice here. It can be difficult to sort through the noise of these reviews. In fact, I was about to order some generics from a DME and found a review saying they were thin. You would think a generic is a generic.

I'd like to know which CPAP shop sells Resmed BRAND filters for $29. Maybe you could PM me. There is a difference between quality filters and knockoffs. If you feel you get by fine with generics, go for it. Works for me in the winter when my windows are closed. In the summer, I have a huge difference using Resmed brand filters. My insurance covers them, but getting them out of my DME is like pulling teeth. It's costing them money though because when they send me the wrong filters, I call them up and tell them to send the right ones. They have me keep the wrong ones.

How can you tell if you got hypo filters? The VA gave me a baggie with around half a dozen filters and told me to change them out every 2 months.

It was Vendor Number 9 on the list in the Commercial CPAP Supplier List hidden in the Commercial Posts forum. The price was just for a 12 pack of the regular ResMed filters, not the hypoallergenic ones. I don't know for certain they are going to send OEM. I googled the part number and "ResMed" to find them.
