I initially thought "no problem" was an odd response too.

But as I've become more familiar with Spanish and Portuguese, I realize we are watching English come up with its own version of "de nada". (of nothing)

This morning, Friday, May 15th, Fox and Friends had a story about a high school music teacher retiring after 38 years of teaching. The teacher was asked a question and his reply began with; "S-o-o-o-o". Gotta Love It!
