Will buy new apap soon

Will buy new apap soon
I will buy an apap soon. I've been on a Breas so far, but am considering switching to Resmed. I don't live in the US, but have a prescription and can order one from the suppliers listed on this forum. Not sure what to order yet. So advise (or links on this forum) are very welcome. I'm happy with the Breas (rental) so far. I can't switch off the ramp though which I'd like to control. As I'm buying it and returning could be a problem due to having to bridge the time without machine, I'd prefer to get a new one.

RE: Will buy new apap soon
I have only used one APAP and I just started on 20 Sept 2014; I have the ResMed S9 AutoSet while my husband has the Philips Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex System One Pro.

ResMed is, I believe, an Australian based company while Philips Respironics is a US based firm.

Each of us likes the machine we have (choice was made my our insurance). Though the sleep specialist prefers the Philips Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex System One Pro and feels it is better made, some folks on this list think the ResMed S9 is the better machine.

There are some companies on the web, Supplier #2 for instance, that have step through choices to help you choose what features are important to you; they then show 8-9 machines that fit the criteria you specified and have a chart for comparison and loads of info on each APAP; such as, sound level, size & weight, auto adjust for elevation, mask off alert, customer reviews of the machines, etc.
Evpraxia in the Pacific Northwest USA
Diagnosed: 44 AHI when supine, O2 down to 82%
Treated since 20 Sept 2014:: 0.7 AHI, Settings 7-15, EPR on Full Time at Level 3
Better living through CPAP/APAP machines!

RE: Will buy new apap soon
my first machine I used is a respironics and I still have it. I just could not adapt to it so up in the closet it went. I would have asked for a different machine if I had been told how serious it could be not to get treatment for OSA but I was not told and I didn't know enough to ask (this was back in the very early 90's. When I continued to have sleep issues, my doc ordered another sleep study and then I was given a Resmed and I never had any issues adapting to it. My sleep issues continued to bother me but I attributed it to stress. Now I have a VPAP and slowly after about 9 months of using it, I do wake up a few times but I go right back to sleep unless I decide to get up and do some of the many things on my list to get done. Just like masks, which machine works best depends on the person. I got up early this morning and then went back to bed and slept for at least 3 hours without budging. We are having storms and there is nothing more appealing than crawling between the sheets and sleeping when it is raining

Most US suppliers follow manufactures policy and don't ship main brands (ResMed, PRS1) outside US
Suppliers #2 and #10 ship internationally

Your prescription is fine, you might don,t need it, but English translation is required if they ask for it
Good idea to have the script say something like APAP, pressure 8-12, humidifier ... just in case they don,t turn around and say, you cannot buy APAP with CPAP script

Work out price difference between on-line and local prices and whether some of the cost are covered by insurance
Make sure, you know exactly what you,re buying, names can be confusing and you should be aware, in case of warranty issues, machine have to sent back to place of purchase. I,m not try to discourage you, just you know beforehand, I buy almost everything from overseas, in Australia everything is pricey

I believe you're in Ireland? I think you use those funky little plug things instead of the ones we use here in the States. So be sure and discuss getting the right power supply from the provider when you order your machine.
