Thanks. Tried that and it didn't worked. Spent a number of hours trying quite a few utilities. Then before going nuclear and doing a clean install I tried system restore a third time and it finally worked. So problem solved for now and am creating a disk image for the next problem.

Congrats on success. I'm so happy you didn't get depressed and throw yourself out of a first floor window and suffer many cuts on blades of grass.

Even so, Windows loves to inflict pain at the least convenient of times says I. Then again, so does Apple in it's own way.
