Windows 10

On my spare computer it is running fine. Of course nothing was installed on it except for Boinc. What I don't like is the emphasis on Social involvement. "We'll download updates to your computer which will then pass on to other computers on your network (cool) and computers on the internet (huh? not cool)." Everything you search for will be stored "in microsoft's cloud - to better assist you in future searches and personalize windows." I turned off so much "We'll share this with everyone you don't know" crap it's not funny. I take it this OS will be great for the facebookers and those that "Post, pin, snap, tweet, check, and share" crowd. Windows 10 will not be installed on my main computer. When 7 goes EOL, so will Windows.

I use mostly OS X and Linux. When I'm on a win computer it is XP or 7. I will wait awhile to upgrade.

Keep us posted on your experience!

Thanks, Jeff

I switched to a Mac when I saw what a mess the Windows 8 previews were. I needed a new computer, so I looked for a durable computer that I could use for a long time. I purchased a mid-2011 Mac Mini in early 2012.

I've been playing around with the Windows 10 previews, in a virtual machine as well as dual-booting my Mac. It works very well, but I don't really see any reason to switch back to Windows. I only use Windows for a handful of old games. (I also used Windows for ResScan when I was using my S8.) I expect to go back to Windows 7 when I get tired of Windows 10, unless I get tired of the games first.

The Win10 Privacy policy has changed. I's now 45 pages. The most notable change is Microsoft can now (beginning August 1st) use any data or usage information for anybody logging in with a Microsoft account. Cortana will also record/report all usage. They probably did this already but this makes it legal.

Don't like that they removed the built-in DVD burning capability.

by the way, you can now download Windows 10 (free) and make a bootable USB or an ISO. You'll still need a key if you are installing from scratch. Not sure if I can post the link but PM me if you want it or if it is okay to post it here I will. The link will also allow you to upgrade a Win7 or 8.1 to 10 if you can't wait for the upgrade to appear.

I found this page yesterday that explains how to do just that: http://lifehacker.com/how-to-do-a-clean-...1720775893

If you want to burn an ISO, you will need a dual layer DVD. The ISO is 5.61gb. Too much for a single layer disc.

Edit: That is if you selected architecture for Both 32-bit and 64-bit. I'm running it again just for 64-bit to see how large the ISO turns out to be.

3.2gb for just the 64-bit version.

I just updated my laptop to Win 10 and it took about an hour. Seems to run faster than my Win 7. Only thing I need to do is find how to disable my touchpad when I have a trackball plugged in. I had to use a registry hack to do it, but it no longer works.

Before installing Win10, I advise performing a full system drive image of your present system and the necessary boot media to deploy that image if Win10 disappoints you.
