With CPAP Therapy How Long Do You Sleep
#11
RE: With CPAP Therapy How Long Do You Sleep
Guess I was in the extremely bad Category (over 120/hr events pre treatment) to start with, bathroom breaks every 2hrs etc, complete zombie all day..now I am down to APH of 1.2 on average.

As soon as I got used to the mask and pressure (17) which took 2-3 days of persisting with restlessness, I was able to sleep all the way through at the 5 day mark. It took a little longer to slip into a better bed time routine routine and get fully comfortable to really reduce those leaks etc and fine tune the therapy - but basically as soon as I was on 'effective' treatment (about a week) - my body relaxed and I slept right through. I had great support from my doctors, CPAP shop specialists and general community, had multiple masks etc .. I was able to fine tune and get myself sorted very quickly.

Normally these days I usually let myself get at least 6 hrs at least 5 nights a week, but if I let myself sleep through without an alarm (Weekend) - my body usually wakes around 9-10 hrs anyhow. Obviously 10hr sleep feels better than 6, but even 6 has me bouncing out of bed. My normal work day is 10-12hrs with up to 1hr travel either side, and totally fully alert that entire time (now i know what that actually means..) - then another 4-6 hrs at home with the wife, kid, dinner, baths etc - all still pretty alert etc. Leaving somewhere around 6 hrs or under during weeknights for sleep.

So, still have some bad leak nights every now and then, especially with a head-cold and such and still have the occasional spike in events - but I can still sleep right through if I let myself, even with my 4 year old and my dog wanting to jump on me in the mornings Tongue

So .. like most people have sent - persistence and good support, listening to your own body messages and fine tuning your bedroom, lighting, humidity!!! and cpap choices lie machine, masks, modes etc - YOU CAN GET THERE, just might take longer for you than others - all us humans are different. Well done on doing something about it to begin with!!
