And keep in mind that you can also experience set backs. Stick with it. Like the stock market it has its ups and downs, but for the most part by far it improves with time.

After two years of gradual progress I've recently experienced a set back. But I remain positive, believing things will get better.

Very good point, SS...as in all things, there are ups and downs Wink

Thank you Apnea Board for all the help i need.

I'm a neophyte to Sleep Studies & CPAP therapy having recently been diagnosed with infrequent obstructive events (AHI <5/hr). The results were post scripted with the comment "Limited REM sleep, absence of abdominal effort band signal trace throughout the study and an absence of supine REM sleep may have underestimated the severity of the events". This was due to the study being a home-based diagnostic sleep study.

As my wife has complained of my snoring & gasps during sleep, I researched into the purchase of a CPAP machine only to find my choice: ResMed S9 AutoSet with Hi5 ClimateLine & Quattro FX full face mask in Australia costs $2700 + not to mention setup cost etc. So I ordered my equipment on-line from a US retailer and was promptly delivered my baby in 6 days for less than half the cost.

My problems started when I contacted my sleep specialist for a set-up consult. He told me, because I purchased my equipment outside of Australia, he (and everyone else) was prohibited from giving me any consultation or advice, furthermore, I will not get warranty or service. How crooked is that!.

That's why I am thanking Apnea Board for their wonderful service. I have been able to access all the info & advice I need, including setting up, changing time, pressure settings and software etc. Isn't wonderful to be able to simply change the time on the CPAP without getting a whacking big bill. Thanks

PS. 2 days of use and the wife says I'm no longer disturbing her.

Glad things are working out for you, TassieJeff, and welcome to Apnea Board. Keep us posted on your progress.

The laws here in the US are goofy, too. This is supposed to be a government of the people and for the people, but it appears to be a government for the profit of the medical providers and insurers.

True words well spoken Zonk. However not sure if my romantic life will take a dramatic turn south after seeing myself with the Darth Vader gear on. Dielaughing

Here's my happy story. Smile

The DW made me tell my pri that I snored and stopped breathing at night so he referred me for a sleep study and a sleep doc. I went with a bit of trepidation but determined to follow thru no matter what the outcome. Of course, it was that I had a AHI of 31 and my O2 sat as low as 74%. So they set me up with a titration and they came up with a pressure of 13cm H2O.

With even more trepidation I took my prescription to a local DME and they called back and set up an installation time the same day. Even though I wasn't sure I could ever get used to the machine and especially the mask on my face, but being determined to give it my all, I gave it a shot.

Being that I'm a mouth breather I opted for a full mask without the forehead piece as I used the Amara mask in the titration test and while it fit well the forehead piece bothered me a bit. I tried the mask we settled on the first night and it leaked terribly, so I called the DME back and told them that I needed a different mask and we settled on the Mirage Quattro. Even though it has the forehead piece it hasn't been a problem at all. I've been 100% compliant and have only had one night that I wanted to rip the mask off and it was just because I hurt my back and couldn't lay on my left side so it was a bit of a pain. (pun intended).

My AHI is running about 2 or less.

I also got a DME50EW Pulse Oximeter and ran it last night and my lowest SPO2 was 90% and the highest was 98%.

I've also noticed a side benefit of the CPAP therapy. I can now sleep on my back and I haven't had a single episode of acid reflux since starting it. I've never been able to sleep on my back.

Hello, I'm so glad there is a board to come and read, and ask questions about sleep disorders. I have been diagnosed with severe sleep APNEA.
I have felt tired and worn out for about 2 years now and a few months ago I was on a hunting trip with my brother-in-law and he got up to get a glass of water. He could hear me sleeping nearby and what he heard scared him. He told me the next day and commented that I should get it checked out. And I did the sleep study. The results shocked me. As of today i've used my machine for 2 weeks and the results and how I feel are amazing. Wide awake and starting to feel myself again. I'm looking forward now to moving forward and the coming spring. Back for my bike rides along the Erie Canal!!! Thanks to all who post here and of course my doctor.......and last, but never least my brother-in- law!!!!
Tom
Thanks:grin:

Welcome Ripandsnort - nice username there! Grin

We have other bicyclists here too - I'm looking forward to getting out on my Trek bike this spring. (I'm assuming you meant bicycles instead of motorcycles) So glad that you're off to a great start with the CPAP machine. Don't quit and if you run into any problems, please know that there are always someone here on Apnea Board who can offer support and assistance as a fellow apnea patient.

Welcome
