iTunes gives you the ability to only sync selected albums, songs, artists, and genres.

That way you can keep your entire music library on your computer and only sync a portion to your iPod.

Hope that helps.

I backup my "itunes Music" file folder to a seperate removable drive which I use to backup all my files.

Also when I put tunes on my ipod I only synch and load the files I want to hear for a while. I never load all my tunes at once.
Hope this helps.

Well if you bought those songs on iTunes I think it’s easy to get them back, because they should be linked to your account so you can download them for free again.
But if those music on your ipod are from other computers via itunes, you may not transfer them from ipod to pc because itunes can only transfer these fiels from itunes to your ipod touch. In that case you will need some other tools to do that. Google iPod Transfer and maybe you can find something useful.

Yep, Itunes gives you that opp. to sync everything. You need to just play around with it, that's how I learned lol.

You can't really back up MP3 files on your computer. They are already saved on your computer. I would recommend an external hard drive. They make them now with so much space that you will never ever get so much music you will run out of space. Unless you like billions and billions of different types of music. External hard drives are not very expensive anymore as well.

If you mean extracting songs out of your iPod, try a software called "MediaMonkey", it's free and it's really good.

When songs are downloaded for iTunes or even Windows Media Player, they are placed in a library directory (folder) on your computer associated with the player (iTunes or WMP). The folder for iTunes library is probably within the iTunes systems folder. And WMP library stores it inside it's own system directory. If you move songs out of that directory or save songs in another folder, the link that goes out looking for the song from iTunes and WMP is broken and they can't find the songs when you try and sync. That is probably why you didn't see the music. You should leave the music in the library folder. There should be little boxes in iTunes you can check and uncheck next to the songs you want to sync onto your device. When checked, it will sync to your device. When unchecked, it will not sync.

Hope this helps.
