How long

How long
I stay in a country where there are only 2 sleep specialist. Parts for CPAP machines are both expensive and hard to get hold of, on top of that, insurance doesn't cover OSA.

I know that there is some recommendation as to how often I should change my CPAP components, (some websites even say every month), so , cut out the commercial side, realistically, how long can I go before I have to change the parts?

RE: How long
I guess it depends on how concerned you are about the sanitary issues with using the supplies for a long period of time. While most of my supplies could last longer, I personally change my supplies out per the recommended time frame because I don't want to take chances with having more health issues. I faithfully change my filters 2 times per month because my machine is expensive and I cannot afford to buy another one (most of us can't). So, for me, the sanitary issues and preserving my machine are what is important to me so I change my supplies often. It is worth the expense to me. I do have to say that my cost isn't as expensive as yours is. It is a personal decision based on each individual situation. Have you checked to see if you can purchase them at a lower cost from one of the suppliers on the suppliers list? YMMV

EDIT: Environment, having pets, whether a person lives in a wet climate, desert, etc. all affects how long supplies can be made to last.

RE: How long
I guess I am an example you could look at. No insurance, fixed income - so I want stuff to last as long as possible. Assuming you find a mask that works well for you, and is fairly durable - cleaning filters instead of replacing them, and so on...

In the last eight (I think, maybe 7) years, I replaced one mask, changed out the hose just because once, broke one water chamber - that's it until I recently started trying new masks. If you are careful, and you take good care of all the gear - it *can* be made to last a fair while.

But, I also had spares for every part, just in case. So I 'could' change out something at a moment's notice.
