iOS 10 out tommorrow -- upgrade an iPhone 6?
#11
I am sorry I was not clear. It is $70 one time charge ($20 upgrade fee, and $50 taxes). After that there is a $27/mth charge for the iPhone 7 ($650 divided by 24 months) and a $27/mth credit for your iPhone 6 16GB trade in. So, your monthly out of pocket does not change (assuming you were with them before).

So, other than the one time charge of $70 this is a "free" upgrade to an iPhone 7 with the condition that you remain a customer for 2 years while you pay it off. If you cancel your service before the two years are up, there is no early termination fee, but you do have to pay the balance due on the iPhone 7 and lose any remaining credit for the iPhone 6 that you traded in. The iPhone 6 16gb model is worth about $200 on the internet as a used iPhone today. So, at about 6 to 8 months you break even on the value of the iPhone 6.

Thanks Frank. Do you think prices on the 7 will drop in a couple months? We saw nice discounts before Christmas with the 6S Plus.

Honestly I have no idea. I don't follow prices at all. We just update devices every 2 or 3 years with whatever seems to be a deal at the time. I am very "compulsive" and usually get the update as soon as it is available.

This year I had planned on buying from Apple to get the "new iPhone every year" deal. Basically, $30/mth and you get a new unlocked iPhone you can use with any carrier every year at that $30/mth price. Sounds like a decent plan to me - $360 per year and always have a new phone. About 1/2 the retail price.

Then Verizon announced this deal, which in our case is free for two years. So, we jumped on this and will see what the "new deals" are in 2 years.

I advised hanging back on the iOS update (which is prudent) but I didn't follow my own advice and upgraded today. So far, so good.

Unusually for an OS upgrade this one actually frees up a little memory relative to the previous version.

My update went fine. I had to fine tune a couple of settings afterward.
All seems good.

No problems here with the iPads and iPhones. All upgrades went smoothly.

I am running the GM of Sierra now and not having any problems except with Safari, so I am hoping the final release will fix that.

Same here. Changed the touch ID unlock back to the way IOS9 had it. :\

Like how you can now easily filter email on it to show read/unread. Helps when it doesn't sync properly with my desktop. Although I have not seen this issue yet in IOS10.

Alan:

I'm not using the touch (fingerprint) ID. But, I'm not a fan of having to press the home button to get the unlock keypad.
Can that be changed back to a swipe?

justMongo,

I looked through my wife iPhone 6 and didn't see anyway to do that, it looks like they have assigned that gesture to bringing up things you want to be able to do without unlocking the phone. I tried turning all those off, and it still would not let me bring up the passcode screen without pushing the home button.

If there is a way, maybe someone else knows it.

lots of people are complaining about that. I like touch so I can unlock my phone with one hand while eating my burger with the other and using my knee to steer the car.
