puffy eyes + sinus/hayfever issues
Hi,
Recently started the CPAP journey, now its diagnosed I'm sure I've had it for 10+ years. In the process of finding a new doc, the one I have is only interested in selling me his machine.
The biggest issue I have is tearing the mask off in my sleep, I use a full face mask due to being primarily a mouth breather and having very sensitive nose/sinus'
As I'm getting more used to the mask, I'm waking up with extremely puffy eye's, from what I'm assuming is a leak on my nose and air rushing into them all night. Which then translates into severe hayfever the following day.
Is this likely a mask issue as I'm guessing or is there more at play?
Thanks.

Welcom to the forum drakkar,
Most likely your mask is not fitting properly, either too tight or too loose.
If you would fill out your profile with name of mask you are using, name and model number of machine and your pressure settings, it would be easier for someone to help you.
It takes time to get used to therapy, but having the correct mask and fit will make the difference for you.
Call your provider/DME and ask for help with fitting your mask, or try a different style of mask.
Alot of us here use a nasal pillow mask and yes, we suffer from mouth breathing, congestion and sinus issues also.

Hi drakkar,
CPAP therapy can take some getting used to. Try this and see if it helps, wear your mask and use your machine during the evening as you read or watch tv. This will help your body get used to this new way of sleeping.
The mask is the most difficult part of this therapy, so don't be shy about asking to try as many of them as you need 'till you find the right one for you.
Hang in there for more suggestions and much success to you with your CPAP therapy.

Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
- Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
- let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
- gently suck to form a light vacuum
Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night
