what does a negative AHI mean?
I am new to this I just installed and imported to the sleepyhead software but now I have no clue what the numbers mean. Any help would be appreciated.

Back ground info that may help. I have had sleep apnea since 2010 always used my auto cpap went to all the specialist and was basically told that even though i still felt horrible that there was nothing else they could do and that my cpap stat numbers looked fine. After struggling through life now Im trying to figure out what all the numbers mean and help myself.

thanks

There is no such thing so the number is likely the result of an error in the software. I don't use Sleepyhead software, so I can't comment any further. This thread includes links to useful information:

Hi jamica5555,
WELCOME! to the forum.!
Hang in there for more answers to your question.
You might try to find another doctor if you aren't getting anywhere with the one you have now.
Best of luck to you and I know you are having a bit of a rough time right now but I just encourage you to stick with your CPAP therapy.

the goal is stay below 5
your AHI is excellent
AHI of 1 means you had one apnea event per hour

check the link posted earlier (post #2)
you would find heaps of info and what the terms means

RE: what does a negative AHI mean?
It is indeed possible that it is that low, but I don't see how it would be that low for a year.

What about the other graphs, other than AHI? Do they show data that isn't the same? Does it show an entire year or just one day or what?

I think there's some settings to tell it how much to record. I think. Do you have the clinician manual? You can get it here:

RE: what does a negative AHI mean?
Okay so I really dont know how to use either sleepyhead or rescan very well yet but I guess it gives an average ahi of 0 on resscan and when i click on each individual day it will show anywhere from 0 to .4. I do not see anywhere in resscan to see leaks. It seems as though my number for ahi are the same from resscan to sleepyhead if you just ignore the negative in front of it. So heres what i am wondering most now .... if my AHI is so low why do I still feel so horrible? Also if my AHI lists 0 on a given night then why is my auto cpap still titrating up on its own? I will continue reading and researching hoping to learn something that helps but if you can help that would be great!

doctors usually don,t bother looking beyond what the numbers telling them and why symptoms persists long after being fully compliant with therapy
maybe they should listen when patient report that cpap not working as it should and not feeling any better
sometimes worse even data indicate leak is under control, AHI consistently below 5 and sleeping with the mask every night all night

in my experience leak took a while to get under control and didn't see any improvement till the 2nd year but some people said felt better within the 1st week, just shows how we,re all different

there other reasons too such as pain, medication, stress, etc ... and also other health issues not related to cpap

RE: what does a negative AHI mean?
In ResScan, open your patient file. Click on a day on the left hand column. Then click on the Summary Graphs tab. This will be for all the data ResScan has so far. One of the graphs will say "Leak" and will have a red line going across the graph. You want all those graph columns in that one to be below the red line. If they are regularly above it, then you have a leak issue. The data for leaks during that time is skewed.

You can view it also in the "Detailed Graphs" tab which is data for just that selected day.

In SleepyHead, go to File, Preferences. IN the CPAP tab, make sure your mask is set right (and make sure it is set on the machine, too) but set the Leak Mode to "Unintentional Leaks".

A mask is designed to intentionally leak through the vent hole. The machine takes this into account. This is why you have to tell the S9 what type of mask you have. You want to keep the leak rate below 24mL which is the red line in ResScan.

Continuing to feel tired after 2yrs of therapy is not normal. Have they checked you for other problems such as low thyroid, low blood pressure, diabetes, etc etc etc?
