MyCode Introduction

First, some technical stuff: BBCode (Bulletin Board Code) is what the vast majority (as in pert near all) of forums use in one form or another. While similar to HTML (Hypertext Markup Language, the stuff that websites are made of) it has some major differences. Each forum software ( there's a ton of 'em) has slightly different ways of using BBCode and each forum site has different rules on what can and cannot be used.

This forum's software is called MyBB (My Bulletin Board) and uses MyCode. It is a form of BBCode, but more up-to-date. The two are very much the same but with some differences here and there.

SuperSleeper has made this forum fairly user-friendly and simple. I especially like the pop-up block for entering in a website address (URL). I'll cover as many as I can here but most are used the same way.

Quick Explanation: For most text related things (such as bold), type it in, highlight it, click the appropriate button. For other things (such as lists), click the button first and fill in the popup box.

Bold text Italicize text Underline text Justify it on the page (just like with word processing programs)

  2. numbered list

  • bullet list

    1. This post will cover the basics. The next will cover lists. And the one after that will cover the other stuff like images and links.

To bold, italicize, and underline, simply enter the text, highlight it, and hit the appropriate button. You can also hit the button, enter the text, then enter it again to close it. If you use this method, you'll see red text in the right hand corner to remind you to close it. You can also click that "Close Tag" text and it will do it for you.

To change the font size, you can type the text, highlight it, then select the size you want from the Text Size drop down menu. Or you can select the size first, enter the text, then either select it again or click the "Close tag" text. This also works for color and type of font.

You can use multiple tags too. In the example below, I have made the text bold, italicized, and underlined. I really wanted to emphasise it!

      [code][u][i][b]Change the filter[/b][/i][/u][/code]
Will result in: Change the filter

This forum makes using multiple tags easy. Type the text then highlight it. Click on one you want to use. You will see that the hightlight now includes the tag. Click on another and it, too, will be included in the highlight. As long as you don't click anywhere else on the page, you can add to the text using multiple tags without having to re-select it for each one.

To "justify" text, you type it in, highlight it, then hit the justification you want. Left (what everything usually is), right, center, or full. Just be aware that posts that are completely centered (because you think it looks pretty) are difficult to read and can be annoying if used too often. But bits and pieces to emphasize or demonstrate is perfectly fine!
