seeking reason for short periods for sleep report - bunter - 09-19-2015

I have searched for a thread on this, but I may not be doing it very well. so if someone can redirect me, by all means drop this one.
My new resmed 10 auto, (now working quietly) and not SmartStarting (yay) has something else puzzling me.
When I switch it off (with the button on the top) either during the night, or when I get up in the morning, I always look at the period it's recorded me as being asleep. With the hire machine, it was magical, and in the morning it was confirming I'd have 8 or sometimes more hours sleep. (And everyone who has had sleep troubles knows how magical this is Smile )
The new machine has never had more than about 3 and a half hours displayed. This is even if I have slept through and not touched the machine all night.
It might be trivial. But it might also mean that if this period isn't being recorded correctly then none of the stats being recorded are correct.
I am not yet confident enough to try to play with the software I've read about here, but I will need to I guess. Sad
Can anyone suggest why this sleep period would be presenting as a shorter time than I think it should be? And how to fix it?
many thanks

New CPAP day start at midday, you'll need to set the date and time to your local time

Instructions for A10 series machines (AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 machines):
