How to make distilled water for free - zonk - 05-30-2012 Distilled water is very easy to make, and there are several methods used to make it at home. When you remove the minerals and chemicals from the water, you make distilled water. http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Distilled-Water RE: How to make distilled water for free - Schnauzers 5 - 05-30-2012 My method. Get it the car, drive 3 miles to Wal Mart and buy five gallons in gal jugs for about 79 cents or less each. RE: How to make distilled water for free - JJJ - 05-31-2012 The earth produces a bazillion gallons of distilled water every minute. It's all free, and the earth also delivers it right to your house. RE: How to make distilled water for free - PaulaO2 - 05-31-2012 Actually, that would be false. Distilled water contains no minerals and, as far as I know, Gaia cannot produce water that has no minerals. She's fickle that way. Minerals are her trademark. RE: How to make distilled water for free - BabyDoc - 05-31-2012 It looks like the energy costs to boil the water and make the ice wouldn't be worth all the trouble to make such a small amount of distilled water. In an emergency if you ran out, you might want to make your own distilled water. However, instead, you could just use plain water in your humidifier. Occasional use of plain water shouldn't even leave much of a mineral residue. Besides, many DMEs replace the those humidifier chambers every 6 months. RE: How to make distilled water for free - PaulaO2 - 05-31-2012 The type of water to use is a hotly debated topic here. It comes down to personal choice (environmental, laziness level, etc) and the type of tap water you have. I use tap water. It isn't considered 'hard' so I have very few issues with it. When traveling, I will use bottled water if the hotel's water smells like bleach. If I lived somewhere that had hard water (stains in the sink) I'd use distilled or bottled. RE: How to make distilled water for free - Sleepster - 05-31-2012 If the tap water you're using makes a mess in your humidifier tank, then it contains enough crud to really make a mess in that home-made distillery. Purified water, or distilled water, is usually pretty cheap to buy in the gallon jugs at your local grocery store. I have a water softener and a ro filter. I never get any mineral deposits in my humidifier tank or tea kettle. RE: How to make distilled water for free - SuperSleeper - 05-31-2012 I purchase distilled water from the grocery store for about a buck per gallon. I use it to restore the evaporated water from my deep-cycle batteries (don't have a CPAP humidifier). Not sure I'd want to make a still for water.... you know how them "Revenuers" are - they might think I'm makin' Indiana Moonshine. While it may sound funny it is technically illegal to own the equipment for making distilled water because then you could use that to make..um...spirits. I think that is probably like getting Capone on income tax charges though...they probably already have to want you for something else before they would bother...unless of course you were shipping out hundreds of gallons of "distilled water" in the back of a pickup at night! |
