Z1 Auto Travel CPAP? - Macsleep - 11-05-2015

Thinking of getting the Z1 Auto Travel CPAP WITHOUT the power shell to take on a 2 month trip to Africa and several other places. I just can't imagine hauling my ResMed Airsense 10 around.

Does any one have one and how do you like it? It is expensive so I just want to make sure it will do the job!

Well, I tested one and it was LOUD, far too loud to sleep with, even at low pressures. It sounded like a high speed buzz saw revving up and down with each breath. I had considered one for my upcoming tour of duty, and I am glad I didn't take it in the end - it really is not a goer at the moment. Also, in order to read out the data you need an iPhone - Android users or laptop users are out of luck. My advice, get a S9 - it is light and tough, and has a nicely blimped water chamber. There are small CPAPs by other manufacturers, like Transcend, but I have yet to use them.

Hi Macsleep,
WELCOME! to the forum.!
I’m not familiar enough with the travel machines to say one way or another.
Hang in there for more answers to your questions and much success to you with your CPAP therapy and your travel machine decision.

I bought the Transcend EZEX Auto, and have used it on a transpacific flight as well as in hotels and on a cruise ship. It makes no more noise than my home machine.. If you don't want or need the humidifier, it is a sweet little machine. The humidifier is a heavy monster that will not run off of a battery.

I use the Z1 Auto all the time! In fact I have 2 just in case. At home I'm a Airsence 10 user.
Yes it is a little louder than the A10. Get the 6 foot tube when you order so you can move to foot to the bed if a problem. This machine has gotten a fair amount of "bad reviews" and my opinion it is a much better rig than given credit for. It does not have a humidifier but the blue thing that goes in the hose to capture moisture seem to work good. It is crazy small. Smaller than the transcend. Reprogramming pressure and monitoring performance is easy from the IOS app. Bottom line, It is not meant to replace a full sized cpap, it is a travel machine and when traveling the less you have to carry to comfortable the less you have to carry.

Do a search on my name and you will find a lot of Z1 and Z1 Auto posts by me. I've had the Z1 Auto for 12 months now, I use it 4 nights a week virtually every week. I travel via plane virtually every week. I would not use anything else. I've also been using the Q-Tube muffler from HDM for about a year. The unmuffled noise, while loud (as is the Transcend), has never bothered me but the sound level with the Q-Tube is as quiet as my PRS1.

Because of the Z1's size it uses a smaller, high speed blower it "feels" a bit different and I believe that most people who try it and don't like it don't actually use it enough to become accustomed to it. I can effortlessly switch between my bedside PRS1 and the Z1 Auto without missing a beat, I find each equally as comfortable.

The HDM HME humidifiers work well enough and last for weeks if you keep them in a ziplock bag when not actually using them. I use them when on the road.

I would find a place to purchase the Z1 Auto and Q-Tube which will allow you to return it if you don't like it and then sleep with it for at least a week straight to see if it is for you. Also, I use a full size, smooth interior hose and not the cheap, smaller diameter hose which comes with the Z1....that alone makes a noise difference.

More questions, just ask.

too bad HDM thinks everyone has an iphone Tongue won't even consider one until they expand their software offering.

Hopefully soon.
