Unexpected Results? - Headly - 12-31-2015

Stupid question maybe, can a mask type have impact on your results? I have been on treatment now for a couple of months, using p10 pillows. Good results average ahi 0.7 not bad down from 46. I recently have been trying the dreamwear mask, and am averaging 0.2. Is this something you would expect?

Cheers

G'day Headly, yes other members have reported slight changes in their results with different types of mask.

In my case I went from a Quattro Air to a Simplus and my AHI went from <1.0 to ~2.5. I bumped the EPAP up a bit and the AHI came back down, but not consistently as low as it was with the QA. I'm prepared to make this trade-off as the Simplus is much more comfortable and doesn't leak nearly as much.

Hi Headly,
It’s great to hear that you are having such good results with the new mask and your CPAP therapy as a whole, keep up the good work.

Thanks Paul, i like the dreamwear a little better than the p10's I am a bit of a turner in bed, and I get a bit tangled sometimes. So the dreamwear with the swivel on top of my head works really well.

Thanks Trish for the encouragement.

I have my first business trip to the other side of the world coming up shortly. From Melbourne to Spain for a week, any advice?

Take what you can get and get what you can take. Sounds like great results to me. Happy new year, and here's hoping you find something warmer than CPAP to get tangled in this year.

There's no clinically significant difference in those two statistics.

Do not check your CPAP with your luggage - carry it on. Call the airline to ask if there is any form you need to have filled out in advance in order for it not to count against your normal carry-on allowance. (Medical equipment should be allowed as carry-on in addition to your normal carry-on allowance.

There will likely be a big difference in paperwork if you are merely carrying it on versus if you want to actually use it during flight. Many CPAP users find they can sleep upright in a leaned-back chair without using CPAP. If you do want to use CPAP during flight, do not use the humidifier during a flight.

You do not want to let the machine travel with normal checked luggage because it may be lost, or may be damaged by rough handling, or may be damaged by simply being an unpressurized high altitude baggage hold.

Good luck and take care,
--- Vaughn
