Whistling humidifier - Jim Bronson - 02-14-2016

I'm starting to get a whistling noise from the humidifier when I first turn the machine on. I can jiggle the humidifier and get it to stop, but it's getting worse. I'm wondering if there's something I can apply to the fittings to stop it permanently.

A couple of things:
1. I heard that there is a problem with some of the tanks and that replacements are available (not confirmed)
2. they can leak in two places where the pipes connect to the main unit or the gasket for the lid

You get any water or oil on these surfaces the air will leak and that makes noise.

Clean and dry

May be more but this is what I have either heard or done myself

This was finally getting bad enough that it was time to experiment with a fix. I applied a very thin film of Vaseline to the insides of the humidifier tubes, and the whistling disappeared completely. YMMV, but it fixed mine.
