P10 is noisy! - tfield98 - 03-22-2016

I tried the P10 nasal pillow when I started with my AirSense 10 AutoSet last year.

But I found it too uncomfortable and switched to a nasal mask which is working fine.

Anticipating humid summer weather and the possible discomfort of a full nasl mask, I thought I'd try the P10 again, thinking (rightly as it turns out) that my initial discomfort with it was more due to the novelty of wearing any mask rather than the P10 specifically.

The P10 is comfortable for me and I like the smaller "footprint" on my face and fewer straps.

But: the darned thing is considerably more noisy than my nasal mask. The noise doesn't bother me, but it does bother my wife.

The noise isn't from a leak, but from the exhaust vent. Is the P10 supposed to have a small, replaceable white "cotton" filter on the exhaust like my nasal mask? Mine doesn't.

Are P10's known to be noisy compared to nasal masks?

Any suggestions?

if you pulled out the old P10 that you used and put away for a year, you might need to clean the exhaust vent.

In my experience the P10 is quieter than the FFMs I used.

It might also make a difference what direction the exhaust is pointed. Different masks vent different ways. If the P10 is breathing on your spouse then it might be an irritant even if it's quiet. Also, I notice that if I sleep with my face resting on my hands, then exhuast flow on the back of my hand can be noisy. So I could agree that if the exhaust is very close to something it could be kind of noisy.

That's the first time I've heard anyone say the P10 is noisy. The P10 doesn't have a filter.
Also, it may be that your APAP isn't set for the correct mask type.

Compared to other masks I've tried, it has been the quietest.

OpalRose! That's it! My doctor made the change when I went from the P10 to the nasal mask, so I had never done it.

I just changed it on the machine and it's much quieter.

Thank you! Thank you! And my wife thanks you! Smile

And thanks to SaldusMiegas for your response too.
