Good morning... New user here - kyhmm72 - 03-28-2016

Good morning everyone. I am new to the forum, as well as new to sleep apnea. Apparently I've been battling this problem for decades and just thought it was stress and anxiety preventing me from resting, when in all actuality, my doctor told me that my brain was smart, and it was keeping me awake to keep me alive.

I just had my sleep study last Wednesday, and was given a CPAP on Friday. I am trying to learn all that I can regarding this 'disease' and everything I can do to help myself get the best benefit from CPAP therapy.

I apologize for not knowing as much today, as I hopefully will know tomorrow. Thank you in advance for all assistance.

Helen

Welcome to Apnea Board kyhmm72,
There is a lot to learn, but first you should request the Clinicians Manual for your machine at this link:
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-pressure/change-cpap-pressure-settings-adjusting-your-machine-with-a-clinician-setup-manual

Feel free to ask any questions you may have about your machine, therapy, masks, etc. You will learn quite a bit by reading some of the Threads in the forum.

Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
gently suck to form a light vacuum
Using this barrier during the day can help you to keep it at night

I find this using this technique during the day helps keep me from saying things that get me into trouble. I have been unable to find the equivalent technique for use on the internet sadly... Smile

Welcome! I am also pretty new to Apnea and here too. Like you, suffered for a long, long time before discovering the problem. I have the same machine as you. I hope you find it as life changing as I did.

first night disaster
resmed series 9 machine

Positive airway pressure device

h5i with humidifier

I have the full mask. Mask was too tight fixed that. There is tremendous
air pressure. No leakage on mask. But is it normal for air to come out thru
the tubing connected to the hose.

I can not stand the air pressure. My lungs actually hurt. Is the air
pressure too high. Did i just need the nose breathing mask.
I think i was hyperventilating and breathing hard because of too high
air pressure.

I was told 10% of people use full mask.

I went thru cpap test at hospital.
