Nasal mask - open mouth - air comes out - terrycva - 04-03-2016 Is it normal for the air from the CPAP to shoot out of my mouth when I'm wearing a nasal mask and I open my mouth? RE: Nasal mask - open mouth - air comes out - justMongo - 04-03-2016 Yes. With a nasal mask one must keep the mouth closed. Some people use a chin strap to help with that. Others have mastered a method of sealing the mouth with the tongue. RE: Nasal mask - open mouth - air comes out - DeepBreathing - 04-03-2016 G'day Terry, welcome to Apnea Board. Yes, you need to keep your mouth closed, otherwise the pressure will be lost. There are a couple of ways to achieve this: You can learn the tongue-suck technique where you seal your tongue against the roof of your mouth, or else use a chin strap to help keep your mouth closed. Alternatively you could try a full face mask which covers both nose and mouth and eliminates the problem. Most people seem to prefer the nasal mask or pillows but personally I like the full face mask. |
