Procedure for UK diagnosis.

1. If you think you may have sleep apnea then see your doctor and explain your concerns.

2. If your doctor thinks you may have sleep apnea then he will send you to see a specialist.

3. At this point it could go either way, if the specialist determins that there is a good chance you have a sleep disorder, he will send you for a sleep study or arrange a home study.

HOME STUDY

For a home study, an appointment will be made for you to visit the out-patients where you will be wired up to a small devise that goes on your hip. After the nights events has been recorded you will then return to the hospital the following day for the data to be collected.

SLEEP STUDY (Hospital)

The Sleep Study will be arranged by your specialist, where you will be staying in hospital over night. On the night of your study, you will be shown to your room and wired up for the night. A good thing to take with you is your Ipod/mp3 player or a book as sometimes sleep can be hard to come by due to the amount of wires (Some find these intrusive). You will have wires from head to toe and in some cases bathroom visits are not possible but a nurse will be on hand all night to help if needed. After your sleep has been recorded you will be offered breakfast and a chat with your doctor to determin if you do have sleep apnea or other sleep disorders.
