Flex to Nano - tmoody - 04-13-2016
I've been using Swift FX nasal pillows with my PRS1 ASV, but getting somewhat high leak rates (I think). I ordered a Swift Nano nasal mask, which should arrive soon.
True or False: When I change from FX to Nano, I have to change something in the settings, so the machine reports accurate data.

False. No need to change since both masks use the same vented short hose. I have both but get better results and sleep quality with the pillows.

True. All nasal masks use x1 resistance setting, pillows use different x settings.
Wont make a huge difference but does affect flex settings to a degree.
With non respironics masks you can just set resistance at 0.

I have a PRS1 560 CPAP machine and am using a Wisp nasal mask. I just discovered while poking around in the clinician settings a few days ago that my resistance setting is at 0, not at X1.
Do I need to change this? Can someone explain how these settings affect the pressure delivered by the machine?
All I know is that different types of masks have a "resistance setting" that the machine should be set at, but I'm not clear on what happens if you don't use the correct setting.

Okay. So when you say "all nasal masks use x1 resistance setting", you mean all Respironics nasal masks, since you suggest the non-Respironics nasal mask should be set at 0? I'm a little confused.
I also looked in the clinician's settings and didn't notice a mask resistance setting. Maybe I overlooked it. I don't have the Nano yet but I want to know what to do when it gets here.

We don't have the same machine, but on mine, the mask resistance is called "System One Resistance". If I am scrolling down the clinician menu quickly and don't hover over it, all I see is "System O" and a value of zero, so I didn't realize it was mask resistance until I happened to stop at it recently and checked to see what values other than 0 were available for settings. That's when I discovered that the other values were X1, X2, etc.

Ah, okay, I think I saw that setting but didn't drill down into it.

I'm the opposite of an expert but...if I'm not mistaken the Wisp is a PR product, so according to what Ghost1958 wrote the setting would be X1. I have no idea what difference it would make if you changed it.
In my case, I'm going from one Swift (non-PR) thingy to another. Both the nasal pillows and the Nano use the same vent, which is built into the short hose that they share, as ratherberiding indicated. Since this setting is all about the basic leak/vent rate of the mask or pillows, and that doesn't change in my particular case, I've decided to leave it alone where the tech set it.
The Nano does make me look like Peppa Pig, so my granddaughter will approve.
