raising your bed to a 30degree angle - lindaadams1954 - 07-28-2012

I have tired raising my tempurpedic bed with foam inserts and am struggling with horrific back problems now.
Has anyone heard of sleeping at 30% incline ?my respritory guy said it would help and it does but my back is killing me.
I just dump the pillows if i do it that way -so tried foamblocks and the bed is raised but and of course must sleep on back but my goodness it hurts as it is a temper and cant afford a new bed any ideas?
thanks

30 degrees sounds like an extreme amount. You may be better off (in the long run) if you replace your existing bed with one of those adjustable beds.

Sorry you are having issues.

Tempurpedic makes an adjustable base for their mattress. Not cheap tho...

I've heard of people sleeping in a recliner so they can raise the upper portion of their body. This might take the pressure off your back and give you some relief.

When I had back problems, before my back surgery, I slept in a recliner...

The specialist said the reason it helps is that it puts the pressure on your hips not your back.

I solved all my back problems with a Select Comfort bed. Wouldn't sleep on anything else.

I suggest the adjustable frame for your mattress. Or mailing the mattress to me.

Why not raise the bed itself and not the mattress?

For that degree, don't get 2x4s but get decking planks. I'd make sets of two screwed together then stack them one at a time, attaching each pair to another pair until you get the height you want. Then either put can lids where the feet of the headboard would go or use a hole saw bit to make holes in the top one for the feet.

How high would it need to be to reach 30 degree incline?

Assuming a standard queen or king size mattress (80 inches long), you would need to raise the mattress 40 inches in order to have it on a 30 degree incline.

I knew all those years studying engineering would eventually pay off. Too-funny

That would make your shorts ride up on you!
