Acceptable Leak Rate for WISP Nasal Mask - bensonlee - 12-30-2016
What is the acceptable leak rate for a WISP Nasal Mask?
I currently see the following on my report:
Median: 1.2 L / min
95th %ile: 24.0 L / min
Max: 45.6 L / min
Does anyone know of a published documentation for the acceptable leak rates?

Thanks for sharing that TBMx. That was really helpful.
I need a little more help understanding the data I am seeing. Based on the graph, for a pressure of 16 cmH2O, the flow rate is somewhere around 35 to 38 L/min.
My 95P is around 24 L/min only. How should this be interpreted?

The overall leakrate includes the CO2-Ventilation-Flow. The CO2-Ventilation-Flow varies by pressure.
Given only your numbers and not knowing whether its a weighted %ile or a true %ile and without any pressure numbers there is not so much that can be said with certainty.
I would go for saying that your 95%ile (weighted) pressure lies around 8-9 cmH20 and you have no or nearly no leaks - obviously at some point your mouth is open.
If you want to check your leaks you have to compare the leak-chart with the pressure chart. If the leaks peak without an increased pressure you have a real leak - if they rise "the same" it's all good

First some terms. The CPAP Pressure Flow Curve for a mask is more correctly called the vent rate.
Now, ResMed machines report only the unintentional leak rate.
The outflow of the blower unit is the sum of the vent rate and the leak rate.
The redline is 24 LPM unintentional leak rate. Above that, the pressure the machine is trying to achieve is not guaranteed.
(It may still provide the pressure; but it's not within design parameters.)
