Wait to get machine until after I move? - Hydrangea - 01-12-2017

Wow - what a great forum! The info here has been so helpful for me.

I have an appt at my sleep dr's office to pick up my first CPAP machine & supplies. But reading here about your experiences, it makes me wonder if maybe I should hold off.

I'm moving across the country in a month. So I won't be able to access this DME so easily after I move. My dr did say this would be fine - we'd just schedule my 6 week check-in (after getting used to the cpap) for in 3-4 weeks, right before I move.

It sounds like you have working relationships with your DMEs, in which case maybe I should wait to fill my script (for a cpap) until I get to my new home?

What do you think?

Hi Hydrangea
I prefer starting treatment as soon as possible but have no knowhow dealing with DMEs and insurance
Check this link for choosing your CPAP machine http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php?title=Archangle:Machine_Choices

Welcome

Generally speaking you won't need physical access to your DME to service a machine, and they can forward your treatment information to your new location if your prefer. My DME recently went out of business. They transferred my records to another DME of my choice. Happens all the time.

Okay. Great! Thank you for this info. You make me feel empowered to move forward.

Yay! I can't wait to have a cpap and wake up refreshed!

Go with your doc's suggestion. Get your machine and early follow-up. Let the DME know that you are moving.

Your DME may even have offices or affiliates in your new location.

Hi Hydrangea,
WELCOME! to the forum.!
The sooner you get started with your CPAP therapy, the better.
Hang in there for more responses to your post, good luck to you as you start on your CPAP journey and also with your move next month.

I went ahead and got it. Was even able to convince them to give me one without a modem/cellular component. :-)

Got the DreamStation Pro (based on the label's code, and the code-breaking that I found here) - it's the 400. Was hoping for the 500, but hey.

I'm running it right now (not on me) to get the new-machine smell out of it.

Thanks for the encouragement. I feel more confident about having this rental here, and getting re-stocked on supplies wherever and however that ends up.
