SD Card Extension - Newbee2016 - 01-12-2017

Has anyone used one of these to extend the SD socket of the cpap from below the bed level to the desktop? Not just convenience, but I was more concerned that if I kept plugging my SD card in and out of the cpap everyday, the built in SD reader is going to mechanically wear out / spoil much sooner than the overall lifespan of the cpap. If the extension cable or SD card spoils, its just an easy replacement.

Flashair is another story altogether if it's going to work on my home wifi network.

I haven't used one, but great idea. My Philips bipap auto 760 has a card slot that requires me to wedge the card in place as the retaining clip does not work. this would be a good solution for that.

There was a thread or two about this a very long time ago, and there were issues with cpap machines not seeing them, or not recording data. It was while back so YMMV. Also, they keep improving the technology so it may no longer apply, just repeating what I recall.

I have tried one but from what I remember when ever you inserted or removed the SD card you had to disconnect and reconnect the whole extension for the computer to recognize it. I think that this will defeat the purpose of what you are trying to achieve. Hopefully someone else could verify or refute my statement. The one I have is broken so I can't test it.

Here is a quote from the thread and a link to the entire thread.

Here's the drill on using an SD extension cable and it will help explain why it has little to offer in making access easier:

To use an SD extension cable successfully, you must first insert the SD card into the cable socket before plugging it in to the cpap slot. If you plug the cable in without the card inserted, the card will not be detected when it is inserted. In short that means you will not be allowed to "hot swap" the SD card but could hot swap the cable with the card inserted. As you can see, that means you have to bend over and perform the same act that you are trying to avoid. That's a "catch 22" at its finest.

What about to use wireless SD card? Try to google FlashAir.

car54: Good job on finding that thread. I remembered it; but could not find it.

RE: SD Card Extension - Galactus - 01-12-2017

Yah Car54 that's the thread, remembered it couldn't find it either, but yah that's the catch.

I've used some of the wireless cards in the past and they do work, in my house it isn't far enough which creates my issue.

Note too that one of those wireless cards supports only jpg and image formats while the other will do data as well.

I agree that taking the SD card in and out of the reader everyday is going to create some issues with device eventually.

However, you may as well go for a Toshiba Flashair SD card (wifi), as opposed to using an extension cable. Don't really see the benefit of that. A wifi card is inexpensive, and is more convenient that manipulating an SD card.

RE: SD Card Extension - Galactus - 01-12-2017

There's Toshiba Flash Air, Eye Fi, Ez Share, and something from transcend. The Flash Air I can confirm worked in the PRS1. None were a really good solution, they all had issues, it's been a while since I played with them, but none really did what I needed them to do. I did get the Flash Air to cooperate the most and the best. It seems like it would be really easy "wifi SD Card in machine, transfer data, Viola" The truth is if it's a picture it works great but the Data files on the PRS1 don't lend themselves to this and neither does the wifi transfer for data files.

It was Jack Russel that wrote a program to export the wifi flash air data to sleepy head.
