Inserting Oxygen into DreamStation 500 - CurtRug - 01-24-2017

I just bought a new DreamStation 500, with a built in humidifier,
but am using an older RemStar Pro until I get up to speed on setting
up the DreamStation. I insert Oxygen at the output of the attached
humidifier on the Remstar. I originally tried a one way valve at the
output but it defeated the automatic on feature so I took it off and
have operated ok for seven years without it.
Now my DreamStation instructions says to use one to keep Oxygen from
feeding back into the machine. I am not clear on how this could happen
when you have outgoing air from the DreamStation humidifier.
Any comments?

Oxygen is typically induced with a Tee at the humidifier outlet. It will not feedback into the machine when the PAP machine is on.
Out of an abundance of caution, they are advising not to have the oxygen on when the machine is off.

I run a concentrator; and I turn it on just before I turn on my PAP machine.

I agree with jusyMongo. Not a big deal.

To introduce oxygen in to the CPAP circuit you should obtain a CPAP oxygen bleed adapter. Your DME may provide one that would be covered by insurance, or you can buy online. These are not expensive, and if you have one for your old machine, it may work with the Dreamstation. Standard coupling size is 22 mm. The only thing that may complicate the connection is if you are using a heated hose. Ask your supplier for a CPAP oxygen bleed adapter that will work with your Dreamstation.
